Why can't i get power from my radio harness on my 03 gmc sierra?

I have a 03 gmc sierra 1500. The car came with an aftermarket radio when i bought it. the radio stopped working so i removed it because i bought a new one. when i took it apart i found that whoever installed it wasn't getting power from the radio harness they got it from somewhere else. so i removed that wire they had and reconnected everything and used a proper harness adapter from the radio harness. but the radio wasn't turning on. this is my first gmc truck. are you supposed to get power from somewhere other than the radio harness???

Yes the BCM actually turns the stock radio on and off. You will have to go to the fuse box/ignition harness for an accessory wire.

Or you can buy an expensive adapter that creates this wire for you and brings the key chime back.
