Power Adapters! Help please!?
I am not sure if I need a voltage changer or power adapter but I think its a voltage changer. I am from the united states and the voltage here is 120 with a frequency of 60 Hz. I am going to go to China and the voltage there is 220 with a frequency of 50 Hz.
Do i need a power adapter or a voltage changer?
Where can I buy it in the US? Give me Local stores and online website?
Should I buy it here in the US or in China?
If I buy it in china do I just tell them to give me a 220 to 120 adapter or 120 to 220?
I am very confused so help please.
Another thing I am going to bring my internet cord back to China (the blue cord that connects the computer to the modem) I forgot what it is call so if you know tell me. Anyways back to the question Can I plug those cords that I brought here from my computer to their modem in China?
I dont want to kill my computer so please help!
Most computers have dual voltage power supplies which means they can operate on either currency. My HP Pavilion, purchased last summer in the US, runs in either country without special adapters or converters.
However, you may need a plug adaptor. You can easily buy that in China in almost any type store.
Your modem cord is basically a phone cord. We brought our own, but it wasn't long enough so the ISP here in China provided a longer cord for us.
You may want to buy a converter for other items you may bring with you. You can get them at Walmart or Target or a travel store. Here's a link to one at Walmart.

The difference between an adapter and a converter . . . an adapter merely allows you to use an existing plug in an existing outlet. It doesn't change anything. A converter "changes" electricity into the format designed for that location.
